Goele Deckers, born in Hasselt (Belgium) in 1988, started her music education at the age of 9 at the Gemeentelijke Academie voor Muziek en Woord Lanaken (Academy for Music and Drama, city of Lanaken), where she took classes in solfege, ear training, music theory, music history, harmony, clarinet, flute, and piano. In 2006 she iniciated her studies at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel (Royal Conservatory of Brussels), first only in Music Writing (harmony, counterpoint, fugue) with professors Ann Kuppens and Kristin de Smedt, but two years later she also starts her higher education for Clarinet in the class of professor Hedwig Swimberghe.
She has taken part in the Curso Internacional de Clarinete Julián Menéndez in the Spanish city of Ávila and followed several more masterclasses with various clarinettists: Justo Sanz, Radovan Cavallin, Dominique Vidal, Luis Gomes, Esteban Valverde, Jan Jakob Bokun, Carlos Gil, Victor Fernández, Hedwig Swimberghe, Ferenc Tomich, Massimo Mazzone, Bálász Rúmy, Darío Mariño, Roberto Noche, and Matthias Müller.
In the academic year 2011-2012 she studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Vigo (Galicia, Spain) and after finishing her Master of Arts in Music Writing (class of Kristin de Smedt) in Brussels in June 2013 she returned to Vigo where she is currently studying Composition and Musicology, and working as an English teaching assistant. Goele enjoys teaching very much, seeing it as her task to provide the children not only with knowledge, but also with a great love for music making. Music is not a task, music is a privilege!
